SPEAKER_09Yeah, so what we're like our whole thought was was when we talked about this, was uh favorite drinks. So I have my two favorite drinks. I have a fucking bottle of crown royal next to me, and I have my go-to beer. Um, I'm gonna be drinking coors light, my favorite light, like one of my favorite light beers, or it used to be my favorite light beer. I would like to be in my go-to thing.
SPEAKER_06I would like to very much point out that when we were texting about this and we were like, Oh, we're gonna drink our favorite beer, and I said, Oh, yours is gonna be Cor's, isn't it? And you said, Shut up, I like Bush Light more now.

Obviously, you are not Super Bowl Champs with Super Joel, yes, Super Bowl Champs. But you are not from Wisconsin, you're from Nebraski. So, what is it about some people that they go, oh, like I don't live in X state, but this team's like my team, you know what I mean? Because you like own Packers, obviously, and I would never be like, Oh, well, you're not from Wisconsin. I'm not gonna game, I'm not gonna gatekeep for the Packers, you know, the Packers. But I just I'm gonna go if you are going to gatekeep, though, I got dips on being the key master.

SPEAKER_09To answer your question, Chase. So, like, I think being from Nebraska, you have um these experiences, like, so if you're a big football fan like I am, there is no professional football team. So the the Huskers are the professional football team, like they're they're everything, right? So that's obviously your favorite college team, but I love professional sports, I just always have. I love the fact it's the idea of like it's the best of the best. That's always just like this is how I my mind works. I love watching the NBA, I love watching college sports too. But the Packers were always derived from like the story my dad loved Brett Favre, and he played for the Packers and he had a football, he gave me a football, and it was signed by Brett Favre. And I had always thought it was like a sign, like Brett Favre and my dad talked, and then he signed it. He's like, Hey, yeah, tell Dustin he's gonna be a good guy. Bye, have a good one.
SPEAKER_05But you believe that Brett Favre told your dad, hey, your son's gonna be a good guy.
SPEAKER_04No, well, no, I mean I made you never met your son before, and your dad was like, I haven't either. He's still in the mommy's tummy.
SPEAKER_09I made made that up a little bit, but um, I was packing fan.
SPEAKER_06He did say it.
SPEAKER_09It was the idea of like having that football, and it was like the coolest possession I had. I was like, Brett Favre signed this, and my my dad just loved Brett Favre, and I was like always had this football that was like, Yeah, Brett Favre signed this, and then one day I was like going through Walmart, and like there was a bunch of Brett Favre footballs and everything. I was like, Oh, this is bullshit, this is not like a fucking real deal. And when I went to my dad years later, like, hey, you told me that. He's like, No, I fucking did. I'm like, Oh, you're a liar, that's fine.
SPEAKER_04Um see, like though, see, like though, if I would have been in that Walmart and saw all that, my first thought, this is how stupid I am. My first thought would have been like, Dad, did you know Brett Favre was at the Walmart in Grand Island, Nebraska? He signed a bunch of footballs, they're just like selling them.
SPEAKER_06I would like I would never say that you're stupid because you're not. I would. That is an answer that I would expect from. You're not stupid. I can see you coming up to me like we were at the rotten college, and you coming up, did you see that all these Brett Farr was at the Lincoln Nebraska Walmart? And I'd be like, I don't know what to tell you, dude.
SPEAKER_04But yeah, my favorite thing about Brett Favre is that John Madden is in love with him.
SPEAKER_09Oh, John Madden loves him, and a lot of announcers love Brett Favre. But again, it was the thing, like it would eat like Brett Favre's like this fucking rough smelt kind of guy. Like he's like a fucking country boy, he's a tough motherfucker, and I think my dad just always loved him, and like you know, I always idolized my dad, and I'm like, yeah, uh oh, I like that team now. And then I just became like a like it's weird because I don't know the connection. Like, you know, like you grow up and you're like, all right, I don't I'm like learning about football, but the Packers are just now like I'm 28, I'm about to be 28, and I'm like, yeah, Packers are fucking they're everything to me. I love the Packers more. I talked about this with Phil, so I don't want to bore anybody, but like, yeah, the Packers are fucking everything to me. I fucking love them.

Um I wanna no I I wanna ask you like what yes, you like to drink, but you are you are someone who can go into a bar and strike up a conversation with a total stranger, and I mean within minutes like you can be practically best friends with these other people. Like how like have you two-part question. One, how do you do it? Like, what is that like for you? And two, at what point um after you meet someone do you decide that like you're gonna be part of my people?

SPEAKER_09So I think it's I've always had this. I I've I've always loved talking to people, I just love talking to people and finding out new things about anybody, exactly. But I've just always loved talking to people, is the bottom line of is it? I love to find out things about people, and I'm always interested about how they've uh dealt with anything in life, how they are how how they are personally. I've just I just love knowing things about people, if that makes sense. Like that's how I've always been. And I just I'll talk to someone I have I can listen very well. And I I'm not like you know, those kind of people that when they talk, they just want to talk. But when I talk and I I want to actually hear what you're saying, and I really appreciate what you're saying to me, but there's this is always those people that are like kind of fake in conversation where they're just like hey, how was your day today? And all they want to know about, all they want to do is talk about their day. But I'm like, hey, how was your day, Chase? And I'm gonna listen to it and I'll be like, okay, cool. That's like I just like to listen about things, and that's just always who I've been or everything. I I just love I love that.
SPEAKER_04That's very true about you because I I can guarantee, like, I if like you would hear about the other person's day and and you would care. Like, I always see that in you. And then, like, if like if you ask me that and I explain to you, like, here's what happened my day, da-da-da-da-da-da-da. And then if I were to ask you like, how was your day? You would just be like, eh man, it was good.
SPEAKER_09Yeah. I like to I like to hear things about other people, like I know that I always have like everyone always has their own shit, right? Like everyone always has their own issues, everyone always has their own fucking problems. But I always like my mindset is always like, Hey Dustin, you're doing okay, like everything you're fine, but this person is more important to you, like more important to like listen to them. Like, I I always like the the the friends of my life, like I'm always just like they're more important than what I'm what I'm dealing with. What they're dealing with is always more important than what I'm dealing with. I always I just think that way. I don't know why, but I just do. I think that way all the time.
SPEAKER_04So so at what point after meeting someone then do you do you be like you're
SPEAKER_09You're gonna be pretty quick if I feel like we connect. I'm really big on first impressions, which is really weird to say because like Miles and I's first impression, like Miles is my best friend, as everyone probably knows, but like I hated him the first time I met him. But like growing, like that was in college, and like I was just a dumbass motherfucker. But like when aren't we all you're older, like you learn like this energy is coming to me, and I'm like, yeah, dude, like oh, this is exactly how I laugh. Like, it even in my literally, literally today, just doing my stupid Zoom cast uh party after the show I did on Friday, was like I learned a couple people is like, Oh, I fucking love that person's energy, like they're really funny, they get my humor. I'm like, Yeah, yeah, yeah. Now it's a whole nother level become like a like you're my people, like you're my closest friends, and everything. I can I can gauge it a lot quicker than a lot of people, or like that I think like when you say something to me, I'll be like, Yeah, this is this is the person that I want to keep talking to, or like this is a person I understand, if that makes sense. That was a ramble, god damn it. No, no, being a guest is hard. This show sucks, dude.
SPEAKER_06No, it's great. Um, no, I think it's pretty okay. Um, as as a friend, as a buddy of yours, like can confirm that you are someone who picks up on other people's energies, and you don't, and what like I think a lot of people who pick up on people's energies usually adapt it, but you are very good at just mixing your own energy. Look at us talking about energy. My favorite thing, because like what Joe was saying was uh, you know, whenever we have gone out, we always go to a bar, and it just seems like you know the staff that you have a separate series of cheers every bar.
SPEAKER_09I just love I love just talking to people, like it's my favorite fucking thing, man. I love talking to somebody, and it's just like actually saying, like, okay, cool, like you know, you do those things like the initial, like, I'm not ever gonna be like, hey, what's the worst fucking breakup you've ever been a part of? Okay, I'm not gonna be a creeper like that, but like I love learning about people and like the gradual like conversation and stuff, it's my favorite fucking thing ever because I I am good at it. I don't know why, I can't tell you why. I just like I love just talking to somebody and learning about them, and I I want to listen because I love meeting new people. I've always loved meeting new people to have them in my like circle or whatever it is. Like, I just always because I always felt when I went to college, it's weird because I think like I went to college in Nebraska, so like I wasn't like going to fucking Ohio and meeting new people, so I'm not gonna like act like it's a big deal, but I did go to college where I didn't know anybody, like everyone, all my friends were going to UNL, and then I was like, I'm gonna go to Wesley, and then I just was like, Well, I'm gonna just try to meet new people, and it's my favorite fucking thing because you just learn things about people that you didn't know, and then people that you thought wouldn't be your friend, like Scott Schumacher and I like when we first talked, I was like, Yeah, fuck you, dude, nerd. And then we became he's like gonna be like one of my grooms was at my wedding. Like it's that's awesome. Wild. I just love learning things about people.
SPEAKER_06Would you say that's something that has always been innate to you, or like you know, like even as a kid, you know, what would you say that that that is this is like a representative of of who you are as a person, or do you think it was something that just developed later, whether in high school or college?
SPEAKER_09I think it started to develop, but I've always been someone that's always is I'm just engaged. I'm just engaged with other people's feelings, other people's things that they're doing. I'm always interested, like I could be doing one thing, but I'm interested in this other thing too. And I think that's helped me in learning about other people, and I want to talk to people. I was shy when I was younger, so I do think also it's like I've grown into it a little bit. But when I started to get more confidence, which is something I do struggle with, but like when I started to get more confidence, I was like, Oh, I can talk to someone. Like I think once you get out of those clicks has helped me. I think I always thought of like clicks in high school, middle school, high school, college, even like there's like oh, you can only talk to this person, this person, this person. SPEAKER_09So I'll say this the greatest play I've ever read, and then was like fully in. So I'm not a big reader, like I don't read a bunch of shit. The greatest thing I've ever read was Fences, where I was I was hooked from the beginning till the end, which is hard for me. Like, I'm never that guy. Yeah, I'm never that person for sure. Fences is the greatest play that I have ever read from the top to the bottom, and was like just involved with it, and like loved it. That's the greatest play that I have ever read.
SPEAKER_04All right, so this actually segues really good into um another question I wanted to ask you was that okay, so we've established that you're really good at talking to people, we've established that you have an appreciation for theater. Obviously, you're an actor. Um so like talking to people, really listening to people, how does that um has that been a strength when you've gone into an audition? I mean, aside from your talent and you know, your preparation, yada yada yada, just your innate ability to listen and react to the situation you're put in. Um, because like for me, that's sometimes one of the hardest things I find, depending on the audition, is going in and just like getting a read on like the temperature of the room, not necessarily even across the table, but just the room itself.
SPEAKER_09I think I've always been comfortable with meeting. I'm I'm always pretty good with meeting new people, and I always like that's always my strength. Like when I go into an audition room and I have people like the first what is it, 10 to 20 seconds of like, hey, how's it going? That whole thing I'm very good at where I like either will crack a joke. Now, sometimes it does not work, to be honest, like it doesn't work or whatever, but like I will make I will try my hardest to make that connection, and I'm not afraid to do that. I'm not afraid to be like, yeah, if I see someone wearing a shirt, like I did one audition where it was like I saw a shirt and I knew it was a sports team, and I was like, Oh, you like the Timberwolves? I think that's what it was, and then I'll just I'll do that.
SPEAKER_06Now that doesn't guarantee me the fucking job, but like no, but it definitely helps because they want to know a human, you know, and I think a lot of actors just kind of go in and they're just that robot of hi, my name is X, and I will be doing X instead of like I don't know, fuck off.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, I I I I try to I do strive myself or pride myself on being like I'm not that guy, I will talk to you about other things and try my hardest to like make whatever connection I can outside of the theater thing, but I think it has helped Joe. Like, I'll talk to people and I just try to find whatever connection, like they say one thing, and I can like kind of see how they're saying it, and I think that's really important too, is how they are like what they're doing. I can just read it, and like, okay, well, this is whatever. Like, if I talk to you, Chase or Joe, like we can be really open. I'm like, Yeah, sometimes sometimes if I na like, and that was no words and that whole thing. No, but that's is how we communicate, yeah.
SPEAKER_04And little little did the audience know, like, that was one of the most eloquent things you've ever said in your entire life.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, he just uh improved upon a Shakespeare quote, but in our language, using our language, yeah. My question on top of Joe's question is I would like two stories from you, all right? It is it's tax day in Chaseland, and my taxes are in stories, and it's time for you to pay up. I want two stories. I know it's a good analogy. I was like, do I have to pay taxes right now? Well, yeah, you know, you have to pay in Chaseland. Well, it's because you're rich, and you know, in Chaseland, uh, you know, we tax the rich appropriately. I would love a story of when you just walked into the room and you command like they were putty in your hand and you commanded it. And then I want a story where you walked into a room and they just butt fucked you. Oh, okay. Like you tried to go in, tried to do the same thing, but it just didn't end up the same thing.
SPEAKER_09Okay, all right. So I will give all right. So one uh one of my first auditions in New York City was for a Shakespeare show, and I I remembered memorizing another Shakespeare piece from 12th night, and I like worked on it, worked on it, worked on it, but it was never intuitive. So I have a very intuitive monologue from uh Tempest Ferdinand that I have. I could spit that no matter what. I have no idea why it's so intuitive to me, but I could always do it no matter what. Um, but I was like it is, but he's that's a good role, very young. Like, no, I'm too old now.
SPEAKER_06But shave your beard, aren't you? Like 23. I don't remember.

SPEAKER_09Yeah, true, true. That's all you'd have to do. You can do that, yeah. But so I remember going into an audition and knowing I was like, fuck, I'm not gonna fucking god damn it. Worked on the small log, worked on it, worked on it, worked on it. And then when I went in, like I was on, like, you know, set to do that monologue. So I was, you know, you we prepare well, you're both actors, like we prepare for that monologue, and yeah, so I went into it, and then it was like I have the small log, and then as soon as like Dustin, what are you gonna do? I immediately froze and was like, it's not intuitive enough, it's not intuitive enough. I'm thinking about the lines too much. It was like, I and I just said, Ah, I'm gonna do Ferdinand from uh The Tempest, you know, completely changing my whole thing. And I looked at the gal in front of me, and I made the decision to just, yeah, I'm gonna look at you this entire fucking time. So and I looked at her and did the Ferdinand monologue, which is kind of like a you know, a love monologue and everything. And I walked out, I was like, I actually did a goddamn good job, and like booked the gig. And I remember talking to that director after she's like, Yeah, I don't know why you did that, you should never do that, but for some reason it worked really well. And I was like, Yeah, I just felt it. Um, another time was I got the call back for um uh a Grinch, uh, how the Grinch stole Christmas.

And then when I came in, they had asked me, like, I thought we would do like a 30-second snippet of the song, and they like gave me a 30-second snippet of the song to learn, but then when I came in, they're like, All right, do the whole song. I was like, Oh, Jesus fucking Christ, this is gonna be the worst thing ever. And I was just not on tune, I didn't know what I was doing. I was just I looked like the biggest fucking hack ever. Like, I'm trying to sing a song that I clearly don't know very well, and I wasn't prepared enough, which is another thing in the professional sense, like be fucking ready always, but I was not, and I'm just like trying to sing this song, and I could just feel from them like this dude sucks, and that was uh that was definitely one where I got butt fucked in the fucking ass.

SPEAKER_04I mean, and so when when we came over, I mean it there was a little bit of intimidation, and then the fact that like we just like like hit it off so well with the four of you. Um, but I mean I knew that both of us had a vibe that like we had you going.
SPEAKER_09You guys were like, I thought you guys were so funny, so cool, and I immediately was like, Yep, these guys, like I'm not like it sounds dumb because you know, like college is like me saying, like, I took you under my wing and they weren't professional, and uh like I understand there's all that fakeable shit, but like, yeah, I literally looked at you two and I was like, Yeah, these two motherfuckers are talented and funny as fuck. Like, I'm gonna make sure like they're cool. These two motherfuckers are dope as fuck, and it was like the best thing to like feel like these two people looked up to me, and I was like, Oh, I wanna like prove that I'm like good, that I'm not like a worthless motherfucker to look up to.
SPEAKER_06Like, I'm you've never you've never been worthless to us, you've always been like such a a peak in our lives, yeah. And and I and again, just because I this has been a lot of chase and dusty air, like airing things out, is like during that's what the fuck is, bruh. SPEAKER_06Your first DD experience is over uh is over podcast, first of all, which is gotta be different. I I just kind of I kind of want to know what what's your first thoughts and feelings about D D as a new player, relatively.
SPEAKER_09So I always thought DD was this dumbass bullshit that nerds played to pretend that they were this or that. Yeah, so I always got wrong. That was yeah, it was like I'm to pretend that I'm a fucking lord, and that'll be cool for today. But so uh when my friend Aaron had asked me to do this podcast, he had said, No, I won't be willing to do this. I'm like, uh dude, this is not my thing, like I don't really care. Like, I'm not I just uh it's not my thing, and then you know the quarantine happened, and then I was doing fucking nothing. Then he came back to me, he was like, Hey, dude, I think it would be pretty fun. And then like, dude, fucking whatever, man. Um, cool, so I'll do it. And then I started doing and I realized you you you get to create these kind of characters that are so much fun, and you're committed to those characters, you commit those characters to those choices, and always thought DD was like nerdy, whatever thing, and now I'm just like, no, this is people that know how to create art, like they know how to create a story and they know how to do that, and I finally learned that, and it's like incredibly fun for me to be able to do that. SPEAKER_06Can you tell us a little bit uh a little bit about your first character you ever made? Uh, who's uh what was he? Was he a half elf fighter? I know he was a fighter, yeah, but I'll let you tell him the name. Yeah, so I'll tell I'll let you explain the name. So the I've listened to this a couple of episodes of this podcast.
SPEAKER_09So the the name is Candyman, and so the idea is he's this half half half elfish fighter, and he's a no-nause motherfucker. So he's just like, so I base it off of I don't know if you like if you like or watch professional wrestling, but I base it off of Stone Cold Steve Austin. So he's just the dude that just like fuck you, dude. I'm gonna drink beer, I'm gonna kick your ass. That's the only thing, like, that's how I thought about it. It was the easiest way to me to kind of like melt into this kind of world or anything. Um, so I would do that, and it was like, no, dude, I'm just gonna get fucked up, but I'm gonna kick your ass or whatever it is, and I'm immediately ready for a fight, no matter what it is. Um, so it it was dope to do that stuff.
SPEAKER_06I would say, you know, what has uh because DD is a very important thing, I think, to many people, and I would say I would really just truthfully, you know, want to ask, like, what are the things that you gleam from DD, the the things that you learn from DD that that affect you being more that like you get from it, you know, being more comfortable in myself.
SPEAKER_09I had my friend that I won't name, but I know his girlfriend like didn't like that he did it, and then but he loved it, and you're like, all right, so if I like this and it makes me happy, I don't give a fuck what it makes you feel, like I don't care. Yeah, like I'm cool with it, the fuck off. I've learned that it's just if I'm interested in it, I'm not trying to oppress other people. I don't give a fuck what you're saying, or I don't give a fuck what you're thinking. I love that, I want to do it, and I'm gonna do it. So yeah, fuck off.
SPEAKER_04I think that that brings up a really interesting point because I I feel like at least growing up, like before I really got exposed to DD, um that D had like this sort of like stigma around it, like like it was really for like and I hate to use this word, but it was for like losers. Like only like losers play DD. Like it was like the stereotype about it. And now like it's it's almost weird if you have never played D. Like like it like like you're you're sort of like the odd one out then if you've never played DD or like anything. Like whether you like it or not, that's that's one thing, but like you know, at least.
SPEAKER_09I have so many friends that actually play it. Like they they do it and they love it. Like there's a weekly DD session and they do it every week.
SPEAKER_04I mean, I have friends and like Chase has been one of these friends, like they've been in a part of like four different campaigns at once. And I'm like, that's a lot of like things to keep track of. Yeah, but like I I get it, you know, especially if you have like good groups to play with. Like I because I've been a part of like D campaigns where it's like the group just like it it wasn't it didn't click. There were like one shots, and we would like we'd get done making a character, and already I'm like, I don't I don't want to do this. Like I'm already feeling like I don't want to do this.
SPEAKER_06Joe and I have both been in the same group. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Where we were like, this is and and it and but then like if you if you have a really good group, man, you'll get going and you'll be like, the session will already be over, and you're like, fuck, it's been like and then you'll look down at your watch or the clock or whatever, and it's like fuck, it's been like three hours, and it's not like and it's felt like 15 minutes.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, you have those connections, like I I thought that way like everyone else probably did, I guess. But when you do it with like a good D master and everything like that, it's like a fun story to like try to tell, and it's cool. Yeah, and I never thought of it that way.
SPEAKER_04And and part of it is you're making up the story as you go, like, even if you're in the party, it's like you you definitely have your part in the story. Yeah, like the thing is the yeah, the DM is just there to like guide you.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, he's there to just kind of basically the DM is like the world engine, you know what I mean? Like when we think of like video games, they're the engine, they run the thing, whereas you have complete agency within it, and it's really the I think the only times that there's ever a cog in the wheel is if if if a player comes in having the wild idea of I'm the hero of the story, you are a hero of the story, but like the thing is is that the rest of your party is also just equally the hero of this story as you are. Because I've played, you know, I've played I've played DD campaigns where people are like, I'm the hero, and we're all like, Well, like what are we? The fix, because we're not. Yeah, it's so it's chop liver, yeah. What am I, chop liver? So yeah, so it's it's very much like uh the kind of thing of you know, it it's it is it's teamwork, you know? It's all it's all of the planeteers, water, fire, earth, heart, air, air? Some airbanner shit.
SPEAKER_04You're you're a video game guy, you like video games. You're a video gaming. Do you have what was the very first memory you have of playing a video game being like these things are dope?
SPEAKER_06And I have a I have the second question to tack onto that. What was that one Xbox video game that your dad bought you?
SPEAKER_09Spider-Man. Spider-Man, Spider-Man, it was Spider-Man, which yeah. So when I was like actually able to play the the finally playing those next those next gen games, um, I was playing Spider-Man and a wrestling game. So I've always been like a big professional wrestling fan. So I've always loved playing those games. So Spider-Man, professional wrestling, playing WWE, whatever the year was that year. Right, Spider-Man was like the coolest game to me. It was so open world, it was dope, it was awesome, it was challenging. Like those the that game was fucking awesome.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, which Spider-I need I truthfully I need to know which Spider-Man game was it? Was it Spider-Man 2?
SPEAKER_09It's Spider-Man 1. It was literally the first Spider-Man game ever. Um, but now like if you're trying to compare like the best Spider-Man games, this newly developed Spider-Man game is the greatest game I've ever played.

SPEAKER_09So the first game I ever played was Spyro. Oh yeah, Spyro on PlayStation. Yeah, so that's the first game ever played on any console. So Spyro and Raymond, me and my sister would play those games together. And then when I got the next upgrade was Spider-Man. But yeah, Spyro is the first game on the code.
SPEAKER_04That's really interesting that you're just that your first and and it's you know, at the time I'm sure it was, it probably wasn't, but uh that's really interesting that your first uh time with video games is actually a PlayStation because I feel like most people would say, like, oh, the very first video game that they at least have a memory of is um something in Nintendo's uh library.
SPEAKER_09I never yeah, I never played in Nintendo. I never never did that ever.

SPEAKER_04This was another one of the questions. And who who like was who was the artist that got you into music? Do you remember?
SPEAKER_09Either Eminem or um Alan Jackson. Alan Jackson got me into country music. Eminem got me into understanding how cool rap was.
SPEAKER_04No, forgive me, I don't know Eminem's history all that well. Was this pre or post uh 8 Mile?
SPEAKER_09I don't know those timelines, I guess, but like Eminem was like when I learned what Eight Mile was and I learned how lyrically great he was, yeah, was the coolest thing to me. That he could just tell a story with like using words. I think rap, like they use a lot of pop culture bullshit that doesn't tell the story the way that MM can lyrically tell a story.

SPEAKER_04Yeah, honestly, like I completely agree. Like that's one of the reasons why I admittedly kind of like I I get a lot ahead of myself and I forget a lot of you know kind of what's important in the argument, but I I get ahead of myself because it's like a lot of like rap and pop music, it's like all the same to me. Yeah, to me, like so much of just like the same. It's like it's this reference, this reference is like got a big ass, got like money, got drugs, got whatever. And I'm like, yeah, you know, like yeah, there's a lot of like rock and roll and metal that does that too, so it's like guilty of that. But then there is there's like there there are the artists like Eminem that come along, they turn it into like more than just an art form, like it's yeah, dude, but they're they're telling a story, like when you're when you're lyrically writing something, that person is concentrated on the story, and I think a lot of other rappers at this time are just fixated on the beat that they're creating or whatever.
SPEAKER_09But like when I'm writing or anything I'm doing, like I'm always focused on the story, and that's probably why I love Eminem so much because I love the story that he's creating, no matter what he's doing.
SPEAKER_04But yeah, he's one of the he's one of the ones that I I give mad credit to because in every single one of his songs that I've heard, like he really does appeal to the the ethos, pathos, and logos of the listener.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, he does though.
SPEAKER_06What a good holy shit. That made me shit my pants to hear you say those three words about consumeristic rap music. Yeah. I mean, I'm sure he knows he's really. I'm not much like I love, I do, I do enjoy rap, but I don't listen to it all that often. Uh I don't know. But that really I don't know.

SPEAKER_04Well, but I mean like I mean like you listen to like even like the songs that maybe considered more like you know corny or whatever. Um, I mean it's like he he has everything from like he show he shows off like his talent in this song, but there's still like a story behind that, and then he shows off like this huge like emotional and emotional and logical and ethical side to him in like this other song. And I mean it it it's incredible. And like meanwhile, there's like these weird almost like comedic twists in the middle of it. Um Yeah, but it's it's just like a roller coaster ride, but you're you're completely along with him for it.
SPEAKER_06I yeah, I because the the thing that I the my first memory of MM was watching uh one of his music videos in the morning before going to middle school, and uh it specifically uh referenced a porno called Nail and Palin.
SPEAKER_04Yes, I know exactly because it also references Jessica Alba. Yeah, I know exactly the song you're talking about because I did watch the exact same video before middle school.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, you're like and he comes in as a lumberjack at one point. That's my memory, yeah. You're a rapper, he's your number A letter.
SPEAKER_09He's my he's my favorite artist ever. Yeah, um, even like everyone's like, Oh, Dustin loves country, whatever it is. Yeah, like Eminem is like my favorite artist I've ever listened to ever. Luke Combs is slow, like very quickly becoming the next thing, but Eminem is just I love lyrical uh artistry, so I love telling a story through a lyric and not it being this fucking even when he goes back to fucking like theater and shit, the lyrics of it is what gets me into it.
SPEAKER_06So I that would I think would lead into Lynn Manuel Miranda because yeah, that's why I love him so much too. Hip hop aside, the hip hop aspect aside, yes, his lyrics are genius, you know. And I I remember in college you were you you towed it around Hamilton, yeah. Before it became like way before it became huge, yeah, yeah. But was I got the album because you were like touting it so much, or not touting?
SPEAKER_09Yeah, but I did also when I when I was doing Ustavian in the Heights, I had stumbled upon the fact of him doing the Hamilton poetry reading in 2007, and I listened to that every day, like I was obsessed with it, and then I learned like oh, this is a rap musical, like this is the one thing I'm okay at in musical territory that I was always like it was always a hard thing to get into, and I learned that rap, and I learned it every day. I did it for my senior project, I did it for whatever, and then when like the coolest thing was like knowing, like after I saw that that show in front of all these Tony Award-winning fucking actresses and actors was like, you knew every word to the show, and I was like, and to this opening number, and I was like, Yeah, because I listened to it every day, I listen to it every day non-stop. I listened to In the Heights every day non-stop, and I loved listening to a lyrical fucking catchy rap. It was the best thing to me. No, that shit made the made the world to me. Like all I cared about was that it was like the first thing, like when you when you get told you get when you can't do something, right? Yeah, you're told you can't do something, and then you go, all right. Well, I'm yeah, I'm not the most talented person of this, I'm not the most talented person of that, but you find what you are okay at, and then you go, Well, I'm gonna work my ass off to make it seem like it's the best thing. You know, you get committed, and uh, I've always had that chip on my shoulder, like, I'm I'm committed to this, I'm gonna make this shit work no matter what it is, whatever.
SPEAKER_04So no matter what's pushing against you, it's like no, I'm gonna do that. Yeah, no matter what you're not doing.
SPEAKER_09People are telling me, like, I can't do this, I can't do that, I can't do that. And you go, all right, dude, like I I can, but like it'll be different than what you're thinking. But like, I'm gonna make it work.

SPEAKER_09I mean, that's rough. I think so many people are just like, Ah, you can't do that, Dustin. You can't do this, yeah. I'm talking, I'm speaking for me, obviously. But I mean, like, and I'm gonna assume like you two have both dealt with this too. But it's like people when you say that you can't do something, it either makes you rise up, rise up, rise up, I'm gonna do it, or it makes you go, no, I can't do it. I can't. And I've always felt I've always been told I can't do something so much, and I go, all right, I'm gonna prove that. I can't do a musical because I can't carry a tune. All right, cool. So I'm gonna learn that I can carry a tune enough to like do a musical. Oh, you can't dance enough. I'm like, all right, I'm gonna learn that I can like I just fuck you, fuck you, motherfucker. Like, I yeah, don't don't tell me I can't do something.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah, prove it wrong. That's I mean, I feel like that's like whenever you hear someone in an Oscar speech or some shit, they they always say, like, oh, these are the people who encourage me, but I'm specifically also gonna call out the people who didn't believe in me.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and and a lot of that, like, I don't know, like looking back on it, it's like I've had, you know, yeah, I've had people tell me, like, nah, you can't do that. But when I look back on like the times where it's like someone's told me nah, you can't do that, it's mainly just been myself.

SPEAKER_09You you thought, Joe, like you couldn't do it, but you yeah, it's like, oh man, like, oh well, how could I ever compare to that? Or you know, how could I you how do you how do you overcome that though? So like if someone like your self-doubt is probably the most is the hardest thing to overcome though. So if you you personally are saying like, ah I can't do it, I can't do it, I can't do it. Personally, how do you overcome that?
SPEAKER_04Um, I surround myself with people who um constantly support me, yeah, constantly love me, build me up, genuinely want the best for me, love me as much as I love them, and um eventually I have the strength to say fuck you to that little voice and am able to kind of go on.
SPEAKER_09How do you feel about that, Chase? Do you deal with it the same way?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah, because I also deal with that kind of that voice of of doubt. I think every actor does. And every actor totally does, absolutely definitely, you know, it's always just very uh specialized because obviously it's it's that old cliche of you you are your own worst enemy, you know what I mean? So only you know the very soft spots of the underbelly to strike with a knife, yeah, you know um, but it it is the same, you know, with Joe is you know, you do surround yourself with people who are uplifting and and constantly, you know, loving and and and no matter what will always you know have your back in one way or another, you know. Um certainly because like even even like recently I went on a local audition just because it was there and I wanted to do it and I hadn't done it for a while. And uh part of that was a dance call. I'm not much of a dancer when it comes to musical theater. I can sing, but I can't really dance all that well. Yeah. Um, but just like texting people, uh and Joe, of course, being included in this, you know, are like, oh like you'll do the but, you know, obviously you do the best you can, you'll do great, bada. It's it's just kind of overriding that, really. True. It's it's a weird mental thing of that you just gotta override that voice because truly that voice ain't shit. How do you deal with that voice?
SPEAKER_09I just I talk to the people that I care about when I have an audition and I think I do okay, but I don't know, I'll just go at a bar and I'll drink or whatever, but I'll text my two go-to people, be like, I'll vent about it and then I'll forget about the next day. I just seem to vent about it for a little bit, yeah, and then I'll just move on from it.
SPEAKER_04That's one of the things, like I I always tell people like, you know, when when when you're having like a down day or whatever, or down moment, like I always tell them like, look, I'm here to help like any way I can. Yeah, um, I may not always know what to say. I'll be brutally honest. Like, I'm not I'm not great with words. Um, I may not always know what to say, but I will at least listen to you because I know like sometimes you just need to vent and have look someone.
SPEAKER_08So you just need to say things, you have to see.
SPEAKER_04You're you're completely right feeling this way.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, yeah. Like like you're not okay to be pissed off. Like you think, all right, so like I'm in a role, like I'm definitely the perfect choice for this, or whatever you're thinking, and like I get it, okay, cool. But you have to bitch that that one person, you have to bitch, you have to have that. If you don't have that, then you're not letting any of the anger out. If you're not letting it out, then you're not able to let yourself grow to the next thing that you can learn from.
SPEAKER_04That feeling is a literal weight on and um it is it's a weight that can only be lifted um talking about it and expelling it, you know, and and people have different ways of expelling it, but you have to expel it some way.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, but you guys have so how do you how do you two expel it? So I have Miles where like I'll just I'll just text him the most random shit in the world, like I'll just go say fuck the shit today, and then we talk about it this day or whatever it is, like whatever it is, I just send him the most like he's my I'll just text him shit. Do you do that for each other, or do you just send things to a blank wall, or like what do you do? I mean, we definitely wow.
SPEAKER_06I'm I mean, I'll be I'll be the first to admit to a room that I bottle my shit up, which is I know not healthy and definitely not the best way to do it, but I do, and I bottle it up until it becomes too much and Joe is uh carrying me up to my own bedroom um because uh I can't do anything else. Um but uh but I mean other than that, I mean I mean when it comes to that stuff, I mean typically, yeah, it it's uh it's um I also I I'm very lucky right now to be in in therapy and have a therapist to to have that release and just be able to say shit. Um, so that's one that's at least for me, that's that that's what I do, um, as well as you know, whenever because I I don't necessarily keep up con uh communication with everyone in my life every day. I'm not much of a texter, I'm not much of a caller, you know, like Joe is my best friend in the world, and we just only had a FaceTime or a Zoom not long ago in a very long while, and we have not seen each other since before quarantine. Um but it's in those times that he and I will catch up and and be able to you know say those those things, yeah.
SPEAKER_09Um that's so Milo and I like Milo is like my sounding board every day, yeah. Every day. So I'm following if I'm pissed. So if I get pissed off about something, I text him just to say things, like just to say it. Yeah, this be I fucking hate her, and like I just say it to him. But like Mile and I text like every day, like we like whatever it is, me and him text every day. So that's interesting.
SPEAKER_06That's yeah. See, I wish I could, I just I for me, I don't allow myself to do that. I just for and I for whatever reason is like that. I get that, Chase. It's I only allow myself to do that. Joe has had to say for me, with certain ex-girlfriends, he's been the one in my friendship to have to be the one to be like, no, you can say fuck that bitch, like you can say that, and me being like, like, no. So uh, I guess is my way of saying that. Thank you, Joe. Pretty exactly, he really does. The first, the very first time I went on a date after a really bad breakup was because Joe sat at a bar and publicly yelled at me to text a girl to ask her on a date. In a bar. It's two o'clock in the afternoon. Screamed at you. I took him to a bar that I love and I knew all the bartenders and the bar. Shout out to Connor. Uh, he was never gonna listen to this. Uh, shout out to Connor at that at the breakbox because he yeah, fuck that guy. He's a dick, he's trying to start his own uh whiskey company. Anyway, um, we were sitting at a bar getting you know a relatively amount of free drinks from uh uh Connor, both of us drunk in the middle of the day, and Joe just yelling, ask her out and he's not exaggerating, it was at the top of my lungs.
SPEAKER_04I was yelling it at him like you ask this girl out on a date now, and I did, and it was great, and you know what?
SPEAKER_06We went on one date and that was it, and but that was fine, and that's it was great.

SPEAKER_04Justin, on your acting resume, what what is the one special skill on your acting resume that you uh are most proud of or that you really always hope somebody asks you about?
SPEAKER_09My Trump impression. Um it's either gonna go well, like you're either gonna love it or you're gonna laugh about it, be like, that's the dumbest shit fucking ever. So like I the last uh one the last time I was asked to do it, I got a callback for it, but it was just like I did my monologue, and they were like, All right, Dustin, you have a Trump impression on your resume, and I was like, Yeah, you're like, Okay, cool. Like, what do you need? And I was like, just ask me a question. So, like the that back and forth is really cool to like have that, and then like again, like I'm not saying it's the best impression in the world, like you're either gonna find it really funny, or you're gonna be like, This impression sucks.

SPEAKER_09Hell yeah. So one of the questions that was asked to me was uh what's my favorite college experience? Number one was answer. Um, yeah, so uh Julia Wilkinson, who I fucking love, who's like my sister, yeah. So much.

SPEAKER_09Uh I remember my 20s, my my 22nd birthday, and I remember everybody was like preparing for it. We were on rehearsals, whatever. So, but like so Adam, Scott were they're like Adam and I were like I texted Adam, I was like, Hey, do you want to do on a double date tonight? And he was like, Yeah, we'll go to Applebee's, we'll do whatever. And so we were supposed to do that. So I was like, all right, cool. So we got a rehearsal, and then their their job was to keep me out of the space, like out of my townhouse with Miles and Maggie, because they were um decorating everything, and then so I like we're doing our thing, we're supposed to do that, and he's like, All right, cool, bye. And they lived above me, so we're like walking, and then I walk in to this to the room, and then I walk, I'm like, open the door, and Miles is decorating for my surprise birthday party and all this. And he's like, Well, fucking happy birthday, you son of a bitch. And then, like, I got pushed out of the room, and I was like, push back so and then Adam Scott were like, Yeah, we fucking were supposed to put you in that room. Like I've got fucked out there, yeah. So then I was like trying to make uh my girlfriend all the time like feel better, like it was like we went to dinner and then we were in the middle of dinner, and she's like, You fucking know, don't you? I'm like, Yep, yeah, I do. But so I've never been surprised, like a surprise party or anything like that, but it was cool, like it was awesome to have like all my like closest friends in that moment, like surprising whatever, like we're drinking the shit that was dumb as fuck. But I will give you a dipshit story. Um, because that's not intriguing, like, no one gives a fuck. Like, dude, that was intriguing, and I was on the edge of my seat. You know, I feel like that perfect girl, perfect girl, perfect girl, or or man, like perfect, you know, that idea person, yeah. So yeah, when I was a sophomore, uh, there was perfect girl at Wesleyan, she was the fucking bomb. But I remember we were playing like poker at a table, and then she would hope she's that's a good start to the story.

SPEAKER_09So she's sitting next to me and we're like playing poker, and then she starts to give me hand job underneath the table. So I have six other people. She has six other people around like the six of the people around me, and we're just she's giving me hand job under the table, and then you know, like pressure, yeah, a little bit, and then I'm trying to play and then she goes, I think you won. We should go outside, and then you know, I try to finish the car game or whatever, and then we fuck up. Uh that's like it was like an air conditioning event or some shit like that, but it was wild.

SPEAKER_09No, it was at the bear pit. It was like uh the figure. Also, cool thing. Fucking in the middle of the fucking light booth at Wesling was dope as fuck.

Um, you know, 2020 obviously has been a rough year for basically everybody. Um what is one really great thing that has happened to you this year? What is one thing that you're incredibly thankful for this year? That's happened this year.
SPEAKER_09I'm thankful that I got to really focus on the people in my life that I that I care about, like reconnecting with people and like, oh well, these are the people that are most important to me. Like I don't need this other fake bullshit. Like the people that I love are there, and it's been cool to really like make sure that connection is like um there.
SPEAKER_04So yeah, and I think I think to add on to that, like because I feel the exact same way, but the people that you love I think this year has reinforced that they will always be there. Yeah, you know, definitely it's like we've we've been through this.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, those people that are most important and that are there, like if you're here now, you're gonna be there for forever.
SPEAKER_04So because like we we're we're making it through this, yeah, making it through all this hardship, and it's like, yeah, our our love knows no bounds. Dumb baby.
